BREAKING NEWS: Safer Gambling Content Doesn’t Need to Be About Gambling

Responsible Gaming Strategy

Oct 7, 2021

Over the coming weeks and months, you’re likely going to notice a trend in my writings.

“What is that trend?” you are wondering.

Thanks, I thought you would never ask. The trend is that the vast majority of my thoughts, ideas, and suggestions come from discussions I have with other people. The other 10-15% come from the discussions I have with myself.

For today’s post, I was chatting with someone on Twitter DMs (always feel free to hit me up) about gambling not typically being the root cause of problem gambling/gambling disorder. Instead, it’s most often some significant life change or pain that the person turns to gambling as an escape.

And that that right there got me to thinking.

We spend all this time focusing responsible gambling or safer gambling messaging on the strategies players can use WHEN they are gambling. However, we don’t spend much (if any) time talking to them about the times AROUND their gambling.

This is the type of content that could go a long, long way towards reducing gambling harm. By helping people better understand what life events have led others to experience gambling harm, they might be better able to identify such instances in their lives and in the lives of those around them.

While life advice from a betting company might seem like an odd combo, a little time spent reflecting on other odd combos that have found great success makes this one seem quite doable.

If this seems like something your brand might be interested in kicking the tires on, let’s connect and chat about it. Your worst outcome is a loss of 30 minutes time, with an upside of creating a brand new type of safer gambling content that can set you apart from your competition.

Isn’t that a risk worth taking?
